Welcome to the Wayne County Criminal Justice Center (CJC). This state-of-the-art facility, located at 5301 Russell Street in Detroit, houses the Third Judicial Circuit - Criminal Division and court administration as well as headquarters for the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, and Wayne County Clerk’s Office. The CJC is also the new home for the Wayne County Juvenile Detention Facility, the Wayne County Adult Detention Facility, and their nearly 2,500 juvenile and adult residents. This new campus is designed to enhance the safety, security, and well-being of the Wayne County community.

January 2015 - Warren Evans takes Office
Criminal Justice Center has finished this stageThe new administration examines the construction activities with respect to the jail project, events leading to the litigation, the options being evaluated and considered, and the costs and benefits of ongoing settlement talks with respect to the litigation.

April 2015 - Recovery Plan
Criminal Justice Center has finished this stageCounty Executive Evans releases a Recovery Plan to address County's fiscal challenges in an effort to avoid following the City of Detroit into bankruptcy.

June 2015 - Request for State of Financial Emergency
Criminal Justice Center has finished this stageThe County Executive submits a formal request to the State for a declaration of a financial emergency and a request that the County enter into a consent agreement with the State.

July 22, 2015 - Governor declares a financial emergency in Wayne County

August 6, 2015 - County Commission votes to enter Negotiations
Criminal Justice Center has finished this stageThe County Commission votes to enter in negotiations with the State to establish a consent agreement to avoid bankruptcy.

Criminal Justice Center has finished this stageThe County settles the litigation with AECOM and Ghafari and enters into a new consulting contract with Carter Goble Associates LLC to pursue a design/build to complete the Gratiot jail.

Criminal Justice Center has finished this stageCounty issues a request for qualifications (the "RFQu") to qualify companies which will subsequently be invited to respond tp a Request for Proposal ("RFP") for completing the jail project.

Criminal Justice Center has finished this stageThe Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI) has revealed the winners of the 2023 PCI Design Awards, featuring 25 award recipients and eight honorable mentions across the categories of specials, buildings, and transportation. Among the notable honors, The Wayne County Criminal Justice Center in Detroit, MI received a special award for its excellence in Building Information Modeling (BIM) and its design as a Justice/Correctional Building.

March 18, 2024 - Turnover
Criminal Justice Center is currently at this stageWayne County officially took possession of the all-new Wayne County Criminal Justice Center (CJC), initiating the transition to the modern facility. Wayne County and Bedrock Detroit completed the key exchange process and Wayne County has taken full control.
