The project aims to restore and strengthen stormwater infrastructure across 43 communities to reduce flooding risk, improve drainage, and maintain long-term system reliability.

Wayne County uses a comprehensive framework that includes:

Street Sweeping, Catch Basin Cleaning, Detention Pond Maintenance, Roadside Ditching, County Drain Maintenance, and Pump House Rehabilitation.

Each prong targets a different part of the stormwater system to improve flow, reduce blockages, and prevent flooding.

Detention ponds temporarily store stormwater and slow runoff. Proper maintenance reduces downstream flooding risk and ensures the ponds function as intended.

Seasonal sweeping removes debris from roadways before it enters storm drains. This prevents clogged catch basins and improves drainage efficiency during storms.

Catch basin cleaning removes sediment and debris from basins and storm sewer lines, allowing water to drain freely and reducing localized flooding.

Roadside ditching includes restoring ditches, controlling vegetation, and reducing sediment buildup. Maintaining these pathways helps water move through the drainage network.

County drain maintenance preserves flow in the 750 miles of county drains and over 600 established drain systems. Maintenance includes removing obstructions, improving channel access, and stabilizing banks.

Communities were asked to provide:

• A full inventory of detention/retention ponds with map or GIS data
• Inspection records from the past 2 years
• Copies of inspection reports for County review
